Whisker's Mother, 1994.
Acrylic on glass. 95 x 91.5cm.
Private Collection, Boston

Artist
Whisker, a three year old ginger moggy, likes to paint on glass as it not only provides a smooth easily worked surface but also gives him an uninterrupted view of of his subject as he works. He has recently "adopted" a small furry toy bear which he kneads and sucks at as if it were his mother - possibly due to his early removal from the litter at the age of four weeks

Curatorial Notes
"Whisker's rendition of his "mother" is essentially iconographic. The outer encircling red (warm) forms, appear to denote the enfolding maternal nature of the "mother" object which we see in the left foreground, while the many white (milk?) dabs in the center must be the paws frantically pressing at the nipple to facilitate the expression of milk." Ahmed Bhamadhadj, photographic assessment notes, 1995
.

Estimated Value: All Whisker's works on glass sell for between $5,000 to $7,500. (MONPA).
