Artist
Expresso, a six year old dark brown moggy, will paint almost anywhere that an easel and paints are provided. In 1993 her owners took a seaside cottage in Port Chester near Manhattan and during that year Expresso painted over 150 seascapes, many of which were sold at her first one cat show at the Meowsterpiece Gallery in Brooklyn in 1994.

Curatorial Notes
"Expresso's unusual horizontal marks evoke strong horizonal images which are immediately reminiscent of looking out over a vast expanse of ocean. These marks are interspersed with tiny multi-colored flecks which at once suggest rocks, surf, gulls, fish, pieces of kelp or crab cast up upon the shore. There is an energy here, tempered with a gracefulness of line and attention to detail that gives these works a uniquely powerful yet ethereal quality." John Pettigrew, exhibition catalog, Brooklyn, 1994

Sent In By: Anne Ingram, 8 year old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. D. Ingram of Newark, NY.

Estimated Value: While most of Expresso's works sold for less than $1,000 at her first show a year ago, her more important works now fetch prices in excess of $7,000 at auction..
