Artist
Blackie, a bombay, will only paint over the top of an existing painting and while he is prepared to "enhance" the work of human artists, he prefers to appropriate and embellish the works of other feline painters. The paintings he most loves to re-interpret are those of his sisters, Melissa and Sprinkle, and though this has led to the occasional dispute, in general they seem willing to accept the appropriateness of the new overlays he applies.

Curatorial Notes
"Blackie's bold overlays become windows through which we are forced to peer and in so doing gain new insights.....[which] seldom fail to surprise and inform." Kirsty Melville, notes from "Infront is Behind - The Blackie Retrospective" exhibition catalog 1994.

Sent In By: Mrs George Young of Berkeley, California.

Estimated Value: These works are difficult to value as the worth of the appropriated underwork must also be taken into account. Works of this kind are currently fetching around $5,000 each in the USA and up to $8,000 in Germany and France. (MONPA).
